A disclosure occurs when a member of the Tulane community tells a non-confidential employee about an incident or potential incident of sex discrimination, sexual harassment, or sexual violence.  When a student makes a disclosure, they will be connected with Case Management and Victim Support Services for supportive services.  When an employee makes a disclosure, they will be connected with the Office of Human Resources for supportive services.  In both cases, impacted individuals will be offered reasonably available supportive measures, which can include but are not limited to:

• Access to counseling services and assistance in setting up initial appointments, both on and off campus
• Arranging for medical services
• Academic support such as:
  • Rescheduling of exams and assignments
  • Providing alternative course completion options
  • Change in class schedule, including the ability to drop a course without penalty or to transfer sections
  • Tutoring 
• Voluntary leave of absence
• Change in on-campus work schedule or job assignment
• Change in student’s on-campus housing
• Assistance from university support staff in exploring alternative housing options
• Change in on-campus transportation
• Access modifications to certain university facilities or activities pending resolution of the matter
• Providing an escort to assure safe movement on-campus between classes and activities
• Imposition of mutual contact restriction, also known as a No Contact Order

The impacted individual will also be offered information about their options for reporting to law enforcement, filing a formal Title IX complaint, and pursuing formal and informal resolution options through the university as well as assistance in filing these reports with the appropriate office or agency.  

Members of the Tulane community can report crimes, including sexual assault, dating/domestic violence, and stalking to the Tulane University Police Department (TUPD).  You may also report directly to the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD), which investigates all incidents of sexual violence in the city, including on Tulane's campus.  If you choose to first report to TUPD, TUPD will immediately reach out to NOPD to take your report and begin the investigation process. If you have experienced a crime outside of the New Orleans area but want to report to law enforcement, TUPD can help connect you to the appropriate authorities.  

It is important to know that if you report to TUPD, TUPD will share your report with key offices at Tulane University, including the Title IX Office.  If you report directly to NOPD, Tulane and the Title IX Office will not receive information about your report.

If the person who harmed you is a member of the Tulane community (student, faculty, staff, or affiliate), you have reporting and resolution options available through the Office of Student Conduct and/or Equal Opportunity & Resolution Management.  Generally, if the respondent (the person accused of causing harm or violating Tulane’s policies) is a faculty member, staff member, or affiliate, Equal Opportunity will have jurisdiction over the respondent and will connect with you to discuss your resolution options.  If the respondent is a student, the Office of Student Conduct will have jurisdiction over the respondent and will connect with you to discuss your resolution options.  Resolutions options include a formal investigation and adjudication process as well as informal or alternative resolution options.  You can learn more about these options using our Interactive Guide on Reporting Options for Students.  Learn more about Tulane’s policies on our Policies page.
